The floor holds the rails together, but there are crossmembers and reinforcements in the floor (which is one big crossmember). Then you have the side and roof structures. Doesn't look like much, but the body is built like a truss, and is one of the stiffest unit bodies ever made. It's much stiffer than the 63 Classic body. The older Classic is too, just more expensive to build than the newer ones, and it needed a styling overhaul that meant changing the unit body anyway. Oh I was sort-of joking. When I jack it it seems quite stiff corner to corner. While the floor pan *is* just a big dented cookie sheet, there is a lot of structure above that. I don't doubt you on stiffness vs. cost. It probably is overbuilt. I will check door fit with one corner lifted, for the hell of it. The classic wagon is pretty good. PS: What's that stylized slit over the hump right behind the rear seat? Interior air exhaust? It wouldn't be visible unless you stripped out all the floor covering. It's not in the TSM drawings, and it's definitely stamped in, it's got stress-relief holes at the ends and edges are paint-dipped. 63, 64 end to end build quality is spectacularly high compared to the early 1970's! Some of the stuff is really old-fashioned (9x2 brakes in front!) but quality isn't an issue. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
