If you clean it, open the reistor cover and take a peak at it. If it's that gummed up it will likely need cleaned up too. If it was that full of fuel you've got a pretty good chance that you just need to spend some quility time cleaning it up. The fuel should have prevented any corrosion. My 69 is still running on what I believe from the looks of things to be the original sender. It sat from 87-99 or so, driven very little. When I first started driving it from time to time it would drop to empty for no reason. But after a few tanks of fuel it started working all the time. It never gives me any problem at all now.
