Here's the breakdown of costs that I got from the Napa machine shop that did the work: Replace Valve Seat $60 Replace Valve Guides $72 Resurface Cyl Head $60 Valve Job $100. Shop Supplies $12. Total: $304. ----------------------- I don't know Justin -- shop work is just expensive! The avg. prices I found on the Internet (http://www.strokerkits.com/machine_shop.htm is a good listing) are more! Valve guides - $9 each x 12 = $108 Install hardened seats - $17.50 each x 6 = $105 (did they install all six exhaust seats or just a few? I bet they charge about $15 each and replaced only those that couldn't be ground correctly) Resurface head - $50 (call for price if over 0.010" though...) Valve Job, I-6 - $180 TOTAL : $443 Take away the seats and you get $338 vs. $244 for your shop (minus seats). So the average seems to be almost $100 more than your shop. Better keep 'em if they do good work at that price! Machine work is just expensive. That's why it's cheaper to buy a crate engine from a production company. They can guarantee a guy steady work, whereas it's come and go with a local shop -- they may seem busy, but that's because they can't expand. If they expand to easily keep up there will be times when people have no work to do. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
