I was over at CH Topping (Long Beach). I saw the jig and it
explained it all. They drill a dozen or so holes in a line that
wanders across the drum surface; imagine spinning the drum on
axis with your finger on the outside; now move your finger left
and right as it rotates.

I figured I'd make the wandering pattern by using a big rubber
band; stretch over the outside of the drum, push it into place,
then measure circumference, divide by 12, mark, prick-punch,
drill press, chamfer.
