This might be related. On the 65 I just gave away the FRONT 9-inch brakes had 9"x2" shoes and backing plates specific for the 9"x2" shoes. The FRONT drums were still 9"x2-1/2", but the shoes just didn't use the whole drum. At first I thought someone had just cheaped out and put the wrong shoes in but then I noticed the backing plates were different too. I wound up upgrading with a good 9"x2-1/2" set with backing plates I had lying around. So somewhere it is possible to get 9x2" backing plates and shoes on the front but the drum is still 9x2-1/2" to fit the spindle and hub. In my experience the rear drums have always been 9x2" and the FRONT drums have always been 9"x2-1/2". Mike Subject: [Amc-list] 64 Rambler Brake Drums Are the 9-in brake drums from a 64 Rambler American the same on front and rear? Only one spec is given in the 64 American TSM and it is difficult to determine from the pictures in the manual whether the drums are different, front and rear. I have a set of 9-inch drums needed by a guy in Illinois but I cannot remember whether I pulled them from the front or rear of an American. _________________________________________________________________ Get in the mood for Valentine's Day.
