There's only a couple inches difference (estimating from the pics), but that's enough! Take the outer barrel off the carb intake and it would fit. The left to right placement of the two barrel carbs is what I found that prevented using a modern four cylinder also. I didn't find one that placed the barrels front to back and a bit closer to the head. Since they all used progressive linkage the side to side mount works better. The early 2.3L Ford used progressive linkage, but I don't recall if the barrels are side to side or front to back. I do recall the intake doesn't stick out as far as later, better flowing ones. The early American engine bay is tighter side to side than the early Mustang/Falcon/64-69 American. That engine barely fits in a Mustang bay. The header shown on the Ford Six site won't fit either. I'll haveto check, but I seem to recall the engine bay as being 23-24" between the suspension mounting points. It gets wider above the upper control arm mounting points, but the distance between the humps is only a couple inches more at the peak of the hump. The humps stick out at least two inches from the rest of the inner fender panels. Cut the humps at just the right spot and you can weld the inner panel to the outer without adding metal (I THINK...), but I'd add a piece anyway for strength. _________________________________________________________________ Turn searches into helpful donations. To: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Message-ID: <002101c73c2a$7bab37e0$b5dc0d82@john1> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" There are two motors that I have seen used in early Ramblers that seem to go in as if the factory installed them. For really early Ramblers the 2000 or 2300 overhead cam I-4 does a really clean installation. For later Ramblers the 3.8 Buick or 4.3 Cheverolet V6 sure look good in them. All 3 engines have a wide selection of after market performance parts available to do almost anything thing one wants to with them. Another engine that might be used more than it has been is the Pontiac Iron Duke engine which also has a wide availability of performance parts and was used by AMC in later Spirit and Concord applications giving a number of transmissions that it would mate up to. Probably including other GM I-6 engines too. Any of the above engines with some work should be a lot simpler to install than either of the Ford 200 or 250 cu in engines. Both of which seem to have a very poor reputation for performance or economy although appear to have been very rugged engines. Get the MPI engine and it would be fairly easy for the intake to be modified/shortened/turned or whatever it takes to gain clearance. I'd look at something resembling sidedrafts or a single "carb" look. With the MPI you can do a lot of intake modifications. since you don't need to worry as much about loosing the fuel since there is only air in the intake. -- Mark Price markprice242ATadelphia.net Morgantown, WV ---- Jim Blair <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > A: I don't know why I forgot about this!
