Mark,

Snip
Gee, this place is only about 60 miles from me and a stone throw from my
mother-in-laws house! I wonder if they would use my Ambassador or
American to
build some AMC jigs and suspension pieces!
  Tempting, very tempting!
Snip

Not to forget the state of the art body replacement parts for all that
tacky old rusty
sheet metal. Thing of the impression you would make driving around with
all those
flat black body panels complete with space age concept air dams. I'd
even bet
that you could get one of those huge chrome or stainless steel echo cans
to fit
between the rear bumper cover and the ground with out hitting anything.

Now there stands a true Renaissance Man!

What a Trend Starter! Once you point out the benefits of tapping this
huge market
I am sure they would jump at the opportunity and write off the
development costs
by using your car to validate the jig designs!

OOPS!
Sorry, I was so overwhelmed with excitement about the possibility
of cloning an Ambassador out of something mundane like a Kia
Speia that I forgot about the integrity of the thread.
Please accept my humble apology. Bling must be preserved if only
to realistically measure the height of a spoiler or identify the
color of a disc brake caliper.

Artie,
I'll start by saying that I don't know the system on the SC/Rambler, but there are usually only 2 different ways to put on the brake lights and none of them has anything to do with the brake proportioning valve.
1. Is a contact switch on the brake pedal linkage. If you have this system, the switch is most likely adjusted too close to pedal or the brake pedal return spring is getting a little lazy and the pedal is resting on the switch contact.
2. Is a pressure switch activated by pressure in the brake line. These pressure switches are usually mounted on the brake master cylinder or somewhere on the brake line itself. These are identified by 2 electrical wires leading to them. These usually fail to turn the lights on and seldom keep them on.
I suspect that you have system 1 and some electrical troubleshooting will have the lights working in no time.

also, if the switch isn't positioned right - or is just cheap - you
could be hammering it, causing it to fail 'on'. i had this happen to
several switches when i first got my '68 before i figured it out. all
my previous amcs had m/c pressure switches and only one ever failed.
i caught it before it was completely gone though, saving me a ticket.

Minutes ago I got a call from the people at ZION, a large stash of parts
was found today hiding behind/under a large mess they had. They are
packing everything up and sending them right away!

The Ram Air trim, taillights and buckets and a lot of other trim are
included in these parts! He apologized profusely and I assured him that
we as a whole are relieved that they are found and thank him very much.

Oh I agree w/you, I was just pullin' your chain. Modern trimmings
often look bad on older cars, and vice versa.

(Fightin' words follow) I really think super-low-profile wheels
and tires look TERRIBLE on most muscle cars, and nearly all
older cars. What'sa point of wheel well humps if it's not to
(visually, aesthetically) clear huge rubber donuts?

And if it's properly installed in the glove box where it belongs

It should be a pressure switch (it's mounted on the firewall on the
passenger side near the frame sill) and bleeding the brakes can trip it.
In fact, the service manual tells you how to deal with this. There are a
bunch of small parts that make up the switch and those can also fail
causing it to come on. Repair kits for the switch are available from
http://www.ramblerparts.com.

The TSM says you have to remove and reinstall the switch guts to reset
it. You may have to apply the brakes slightly to get the plunger out. I
highly suggest looking at the diagrams in the TSM before doing this so
you can see what the little parts look like. Ordering a repair kit may
not be a bad idea either.

if you get stuck and aren't concerned about originality, you can pull
the axles and convert to the '73-up v8 drums. they were also used on
some late sixes [spirit amx, concord wagon], eagles, cherokees and
wranglers up to '90, so availability for them should be excellent.

A couple photos of the 4 barrel carb that was used on the early Mazda RX7s.

I'd guess it's about a 350cfm.

The "idler" on my A/C fanbelt (1983 258 six) is worn, and the
noise indicates immanent failure...

Is that bearing a standard replacement part or do I need to
get it from an AMC specialty house?

Methinks thou hast two (2) "brake switches" -- the one actuated
by the pedal what makes the ass lit up, and the one in the
combo block onna firewall what makes the dash BRAKE FAIL light.

If it's the former, chase away the bugs... if the latter, then
(a) if you recently bled the brakes, as Frank points out, then
you need to reset the switch on the combo block. RTFM TSM. (b)
If you have NOT recently bled the brakes, you might actually have
a brake system failure, like a leaking rear wheel cylinder. (Rear
brake problems it's possible ot not feel, if your front discs
fail you notice).

After having this WEB TV for almost 6 years it has developed terminal
problems.
I thought about buying a real computer for about 30 seconds and decided
to get another WEB TV. It serves my needs just fine at 1/5'th the price
of a real computer. I may be off line for a day or two when the new box
arrives. I am told I will not loose any info but you know how it is.
Anyone that needs me has my home and cell phone no#'s. I still like
simple so I went for another WEB TV not just for the price.
