I have a porter cable 7.5 hp, 13cfm, 80 gallon tank, 2 stage that cost around $800 dollars. For the $300 more than what your looking to spend you will never have to buy another compressor again, (this is my third compressor, each larger than the last) and will be able to grow as you learn new talents when working on the cars. The 2 stage compressor will allow it to catch up as you use the air in the tank and the 13 cfm will allow you to run pretty much anything you want. Also make sure you invest and study on how to install a good air system after the tank, ie. regulator, lubricator, air filter. Depending on what you plan on in the future should be taken into account, if you don't plan on anything else just get a small horizontal compressor that can be stored easily. It's easier than constantly going on and off for the compressor. _________________________________________________________________ Add a Yahoo! contact to Windows Live Messenger for a chance to win a free trip! http://www.imagine-windowslive.com/minisites/yahoo/default.aspx?locale=en-us&hmtagline ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Sat, 04 Nov 2006 08:02:50 -0800 From: "Jim Blair" <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] Re : Possible carb for a six? I'd reattach a cannister (so you don't smell gas vapors) and run a high flow cat (if they took off the AIR pump and not the cat, running will soon get tougher) Look for a solder job on the harness near the ignition box/dist harness. I just discovered a new-in-the-box NOS Carter WCD 2V carb I bought years ago. Not sure if it's a 196 or 232 version, but I'm wondering if I should consider using it in place of the BBD? A lot of the emissions stuff has been removed already (such as the charcoal canister -- I haven't looked to see what else might be missing, but no hoses/valves on the valve cover like some Eagles have...). It seems to run really good after it warm up, and has the connector for the computer system. I haven't even looked to see if that's hooked up!! Now I wonder if a "Nutter bypass" has been done!! In any case, it runs good, and I plan on driving it down to SC next week. Like I said earlier, if anyone sees a nut driving a lawn tractor down I-95 (next Wednesday!), take pity -- it's me, and the J-10 has broken down!! ;> _________________________________________________________________ Find a local pizza place, music store, museum and more?then map the best route! http://local.live.com?FORM=MGA001 ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Sat, 4 Nov 2006 11:48:54 -0500 (EST) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) Subject: Re: [AMC-List] Possible carb for a six? Shipping weight is the weight of the car with standard features (no options), lubricants and coolant and just enough gas to get it on and off of the truck to the dealer, generally less than five gallons. The Deluxe series came standard with the cast iron 196 OHV engine. The aluminum block engine is advertised as weighing 80 pounds less than the cast iron block. You shipping weight would therefore be somewhat lighter than 3014 pounds.
