Your vacuum leak may be a dead booster or split hose (although loose and AMC 6 cyl intake in a FSJ tends to go hand in hand. Usually due to the front hanger missing that keeps it attached to the bellhousing so it swings WITH the engine/trans) The vibe may be a bad tire or bent axle flange (or just a M20 axle bearing going out) or just a plain old worn out Ujoint (middle slip joint driveshafts often seem to be taken off and stuck back on without regard for Ujoint alignment as well) The NP208 (only tcase used with std trans '80 and newer) can be upshifted while moving IF you are adept at meshing non-synchro trans. I would go up to almost 20 mph in low range hauling my 5 ton trailer up a 10% hill, then pop into neutral (with a 999 auto. You just push in the clutch twice with the stick) then shove the shifter into high range and slam the trans shifter to 1st and engage the throttle right after I felt the trans engage. Not the easiest thing to do, and the grinding can be unnerving as you practice. Watch out for too much chain slack! Quoting farna@xxxxxxx: >Well, I got it home from NYC with no problems at all! I wouldn't reuse the bearings unless absolutely necessary. I replaced my last ('60?) Rambler's ball bearings with tapered rollers I had kicking around that happened to be the right size (I think I bought them for my neighbor's Concord but only needed to replace 1 side as the other was already new) From: "johnny kazek" <johnnykazek@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] Front drum stuck to hub To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <BAY119-F234B2430C110AED43BD1FCA5F90@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; format="flowed" Kind of another rookie question but here goes- Rebuilding drum brakes all around on 60 Rambler Wagon. Trying to remove front drum passenger side, shoes retracted with no problem, but drum wouldn't come off. Planned on repacking bearings so took off nut and drum slips off no problem, but appears seized to the hub. So I have the drum and hub removed as one unit. Could get away with having drum turned like this, but I've already purchased new drum and would like to put that on. If you follow me so far, I'm tempted to soak the drum/hub in PB Blaster then slam the lug bolts against a flat surface, but think I might damage hub or inner bearings. Should I pry bearings out first? Try heat around lugs then pry hub? Am I missing something obvious here? OK if I lose the drum but don't want to break anything else. -- Thanks a lot for your time! My Spirit with P245 60 14 rear tires and a 2.53:1 final drive calculates out to about 32 mph/1000 rpm if I did my math right when I calculated it out and it basically grunts a bit on a 7% grade if you try to maintain freeway speed, or at least it did before the fuel injection was installed but for all practical purposes it handled hills and grades o.k. with the stock bbd carburetor. At that time though the basic engine was not stock. The compression had been raised to 9.0:1 and it was using an Iskenderian 256 Super Cam. The transmission is a 904 w/lock up torque converter. ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 21:18:03 -0800 From: "Jamie Smith" <oconner51@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] just when I thought it was safe To: <amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Message-ID: <BAY109-DAV16880F63D5B364BA156822BFF90@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Message: 6 Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 09:20:28 -0600 From: "Eddie Stakes" <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] just when I thought it was safe To: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx>> Message-ID: <009601c6fc3a$e9e79990$e8f3b148@piageedc1iqa5q<009601c6fc3a$e9e79990$e8f3b148@piageedc1iqa5q">mailto:009601c6fc3a$e9e79990$e8f3b148@piageedc1iqa5q>> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original <snip> It's worked with my wife Paige now for 18 years, she has driven AMC's since we started living in sin in 88. Although I don't have a significant other, it is nice having someone around to encourage your habit...I mean hobby. I live with my parents (both disabled) and my mom encouraged me to buy the 66 classic. I have told her about other AMC's I have found and she asks if I can afford to buy it or if I am interested in buying it. Later when I told her I needed to get rid of some cars (meaning wagoneer and the toronado) she asked me "you're not getting rid of the white rambler (the classic) are you?" Now I am considering selling it (along with my 84 Eagle Limited and my GMC truck) and bringing a better truck into the herd. I just have to figure out how I am going to tell her and my boss and his wife (they sold me the rambler and had as many dreams for it as I did).
