There was no major redesign of the 196 OHV head that I know of. Where d id you get that info -- I don't know everything about the 196, this might be new. The cam profile might have changed, but most likely it was just a carb change and different tuning. AMC did change the cam bearings for some odd reason around 64 (different size than earlier), and the oil source for the head was changed around 63/late 62. Neither of those changes should have affected efficiency or power. The mileage changes could be rear gear related also. There was a change in mid 62 or sometime in 63 to the casting technique -- castings were a little thinner than older models. Maybe that's what you're thinking about? Like you, if anyone knows anything more I'd like to hear it! If the valve fits, use it!! ;> --------------------------------------------- Date: Monday, October 30, 2006 10:32 AM From: Justin Shelton <hydeparker@xxxxxxxxx> Frank: Ah - you're getting at what I really wanted to know, which was whether some of my vast collection of NOS valves would work in my '60 head. I have 4 complete sets of exhaust valves and 3 of intake, but none match the part numbers for the '60 head. I'll take the box of valves into the guy who's rebuilding the head to see what he thinks. I know that for '62 the 196 OHV head was redesigned somehow to make the engine more efficient and improve mileage, but I really do not know what they did. Anyone? _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list or go to http://www.amc-list.com
