Guys:

I stopped in at the South Side Salvage in South Bend, IN, over the weekend and was pleased to find a number of AMCs lined up in a row. All are very complete.

First in the row is a REALLY NICE SX/4, the only think off it is I think the carburetor. Next door is a 4-door Hornet with a 232, a 2-door Hornet with a 304, then a Jeep Gladiator with a 327/AT. Pretty much nothing has been taken off of any of these cars. I'm going to pull some stuff off of the 327.

Here's something weird about that yard: when I went to pay for a door handle I pulled, there was a sign up that said something like "As of January 1, 2006, we can no longer let customers purchase gas tanks or fuel pumps." Is this weird, or what? I know that it is illegal to sell a used cat converter off a car, but I'd never heard anything about fuel tanks and pumps. Maybe it's their own policy and not state law. Odd.

- Justin

Why?!?!

A total of 2054 ?71 AMXs were built.

Of those, about a third got 401s?.maybe 750?

Of those, less than a third got a 4-speed?maybe 250?

Of those, maybe a quarter still exist?.65 or so?

Comparatively, there are probably more ?69 Camaro SSs today

than there were ?71 AMXs in 1971.

Don?t know what constitutes rare on your end.

Well the Vin was VIN A1M7982155315.

Notice the rare "2" for the engine code?

Might have had a rare carb setup for the factory?

dunno about in, but gasoline is a hazardous waste in this state so the
first thing most yards do here is yank and crush the tanks - even on
driveable cars.

If it is a 65-68 Model sporting a Rambler/Vigilante engine or Rambler six it should have a 64-65 era Buick Nailhead turbo 400 in it! Hooked up with a whole bunch of Near impossible to find adapters! There are enough of the V-8 engined rigs around to find them with diligent searching, I have one here :] If it is a Six cylinder Rambler engine it is a very hard to find setup as the sales brochures all listed the six cylinder auto. but we don't have any hands on proof that any existed!
By hands on I mean, someone who has one or has actually seen it!
Much like the production sheet that is out for 64 Americans that shows some 500 2 door wagons being built in 64! We don't have any actual pictures or proof they actually existed.
Now I'm not sure what the overhead cammed jeeps used for transmissions but those adapters would be different as would the adapters used to mate the 69-?? Buick engines to the same nailhead case.

It's a law [federal I think] relating to the selling of either hazardous waste or emisions equipment.
Don't forget to try and get the crossmember and engine brackets off the 304 Hornet!
  I see the Jeep is a 327.
We still don't know if the six cylinder automatic jeeps ever existed with the Nailhead trans and adapters, RATS!

Another item on the Jeep!
The Power steering pump and bracket will allow anyone with a Gen I V-8 to go to the newer Saginaw Power steering pump. I've got one for my Convert! Nice easy swap, makes it easy to get parts or rebuilt pumps quick and easy.

'69-'71 for the buick 350; amc 360 '72-up.

they listed the ohc230 well into '65, so it's technically possible
there's a th400 adapter for it too. prior to that they used iron
warners, as did ih up through '71.

Is the rear window regulator for a 64 Classic Hdtp the
same as the American? I know they share some body
parts, but i am not sure on this one.
Also, I replaced the hinges on my Hornet wagon.
Everything went well on the bottom hinge but the top
hinge female plate, the one inside the A pillar frame
with three threaded holes, snapped off thwo bolts. My
donor car has a good plate and I took off the dash and
expected to just snake out the plate.
It seems to have had the car built around the plate. I
can just see the designers drawing the plate then
wondering how far to bury the thing.
How do I get it out of there. I am thinking of cutting
the kick panrl area, replacing the plate then welding
it up later.......Russ
