I removed the carb and put the original Edelbrock 600 back on to confirm a carb problem and the car ran fine. I then removed the top plate of the 750 to replace the jets. After removing the top I turned it over and the floats did not move. Seems the brass fitting that the inlet valves fit into had backed-out and would not allow the floats to move. Tightened up the fittings, put the carb back on and it runs like a scalded ape now! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! In updating the owner information for the 1971 Javelin AMXs I determined that one of my registered owners had changed his phone number and did not have an email address. After spending some time on-line with the white pages for PA, I was able to find Bill Arendes and track him down. After calling him and updating his data for the Registry he tells me his car is "up for sale" in mid August. He will not post a price but would prefer folks call him directly. Please note that I have never met Bill and have never seen his car. His cell number is 1-717-491-3767. >From the files that Cliff Danley passed me however I do have a picture of his car taken in 2004 at the Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle PA show and needless to say it is a beautiful car. His car is a 401 Z code, early 71, 4 speed with Hurst Shifter Comp Plus and black leather seats. Car is some kind of deep red (doesn't look Matador) with a black T stripe. Wheels are 8 slot AMC with volcanoes (never had any Rebel Machine wheels since he has owned it). Everything on the engine and tranny have been rebuilt. Engine has 275 miles on rebuild. Bill did not include VIN info or build data plate. As Bill has no email he sent me a 2 page typed letter to my house with all the specs and mod's on the engine and tranny. Needless to sat the list is mighty long. This car has to really be fast based on these mod's. Without re-typing his entire letter let me give you the highlights: Exhaust is all new 3" Hooker Headers and Trendsetter pipes; Suspension is all new; Car also sports A/C, PS, PB, 4:10 gears posi rear, factory handling package, light group, tinted glass, the "long console" with center arm rest, and the Go Pack instrumentation. I do see a functional cowl hood but I do not see a dual snorkle or a flapper box. I also see both spoilers. Good luck with this car for anyone out there looking to buy a real 71 Javelin AMX. Let me know if you do buy the car so we can keep the Registry current with the new owner information. For anyone out there who hasn't yet signed up for the 71-74 Javelin Registry please do. We need you and your car in the database. This is the sixth year for it and it's put on by Ohio American Motors Classics (same club that just did the AMO National show). This is held in conjunction with the Bob Poole Orphan Car Show and they usually have a nice turnout for that show. The weather's typically nice for this show and there's plenty to see at the park (like the Wright 3 Flyer, some NCR stuff, and all sorts of transportation related things I bet you never new Dayton made) besides the cars. Also, the show pictures are taken in front of a 1920's era gas station in the historic park. Last year, the show was actually in the historic park but I don't know if that's going to be the case this year or not. We have a great DJ and there are food vendors at the show. Eh, ok, Jacob too even though not going to school. But there are not one, but two big juicy Pacers Radio controlled like the Gremlin in above link there for $49.99 each. I was really impressed with them also I may add, as good detail and the company was even nice enough to recognize American Motors on the front with the logo, unlike some of the others such as the Racing Champs Hot Rod AMX which called it a 'groan' Chrysler AMX. But this is the second Wally World I have seen these in. I got lucky also as the smaller 1:64th scale Fresh Cherries (Hot Wheels size) Gremlins, Pacers, Mavericks, Pintos and those child's portion Mustangs, guess it is a 77, but all on special for $1.00, not usual $1.99, woo hoo, so scrapped up another dozen AMCs, didn't buy no Fords however. I copied this to the amxfiles.com also although it originated on the badassgremlin group, as maybe some of the AMCers there have not seen these in stores yet, and would know what to look for. One more thing, while that is a $199.00 remote controlled Gremlin, wouldn't you rather have a Gremlin, Hornet hot rod, 69 AMX, 72 AMX, 69 SC/Rambler, 70 Rebel Machine and 68 Javelin complete with dealership for less: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330014104882 I'll toss in a tiny radio, flea size. It is the September issue, currently on grocery store shelves, probably due to change any time. The name of the article was "Alternatives under 5K". At least they recognized that AMC was a good choice in this range, but the black eye they put on it sort of negates that, in my humble opinion. Hey! I just figured out what the hell "IMHO" means... mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! They should be able to look the codes up in their books. If not, they should have a color match machine. Of course that requires a chip of paint or sample of the original. There is a 73 TSM (Technical Service Manual -- what AMC called their factory manuals) on-line at www.tocmp.com. Search the site for "AMC manual" and it will show up. I'm not 100% positive the EGR is the same, but it should be unless 74 was the first year for EGR. I don't think so -- I believe that at least CA cars used EGR in 73. ------------------------------ Message: 11 Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2006 21:17:44 -0700 From: "John Elle" <johnelle@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] Rust Solution - www.weremoverust.com To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <000a01c6b9d8$724b74a0$ebdd0d82@john1> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" SNIP now there is not much excuse to not save what once was a rust bucket - [ if you're good at welding ! ] milnersXcoupe NEW YORK SNIP Brien, To play devil's advocate a bit here a couple of thunks! Thunk 1, If it looks to good to be true, it probably is! Thunk 2, Looking carefully at objects in the slide show, there seems to be a lot of sheet metal etc. in the after shots that did not have the deep rust pits in them they did in the before shots. Example; Before and after on the carburetor, Jaguar wheels, Blue Lincoln rear axle and also notice that the exhaust pipe is just as rusty in the after then it was in the before but the pictures showed the pipe dripping with solution. Thunk 3, even if it is as claimed or something that approaches that type of result; it does not neutralize the rust. Rust will start forming again after a period of time. This is not good if one wishes to stop the rust formation such as in the seams of a spot welded uni-body car. (Such as a Rambler or related vehicle) Yup, not being acidic certainly has advantages, enough to make me wonder anyway, but Rust-Mort a SEMs product has always worked well for me up to this point in time even if it is RASPY, as it neutralizes rust. Rust-Mort (and probably others but it is the one I use) can be applied with a generic spray bottle, brushed on, in the case of blind areas such as the inside of boxed sheet metal unibody construction it can be poured through and collected if required and re-poured through and will even work if the blind area is wet. This stuff basically seems to work with the same requirements but must be constantly recycled and collected, a questionable process at best or parts soaked in it for an extended period of time. At it's worst, Rust-mort takes about 3 applications for maximum benefit. I dunno, but it sure seems to be too good to be true. Wonder what the cost of a gallon of this stuff is? Oops, found out, $25.00 a gallon. I wonder how many gallons it takes to soak a wheel in?
