Or more direct, a rod broke and went through the block. Still sounds
like a fair price -- all the work has been done for the 4.0L converion.
Rebuildable short blocks aren't to expensive. Use the existing head and
electronics, but have the head rebuilt with the short block.

Seems I remember the taillights for the 62 being a bit unique now -- oh
well, you have to do what you have to do! At least the headlights will
be easy -- standard replacement part in any parts store. I have halogen
sealed beams in mine. I haven't found any with the replaceable bulbs,
but I haven't been looking. The sealed beam halogens work just as good,
much better than standard sealed beams.

Kent, you can use all the parts you need from any 63-66 Classic or Ambo
two door hardtop. Same for the drivetrain -- it just needs to be a 232
if you want to be Typhoon specific. There was nothing special about the
Typhoon 232, so it will still look correct with any engine. You just
need a 63-66 Torque Tube trans (earlier uses a different TT mount) and
any 64-71 232 (or a 71 258 -- the only year that will bolt to your
trans). You can't put a 258 crank in a pre 71 232 though. The deck
height was raised ~1/8" to get the bigger stroke. I've heard of a
spacer being made for a long stroke AMC six, so it could be done. The
fellow I talked to (can't remember who) had the spacer bolted down and
the block bored with it in place. He increased the stroke of a 258 this
way for a Jeep racer (offset ground the crank). Lots of work!! Using
the spacer and a 258 crank in an early 232 to keep the TT trans makes a
little more sense.

the second one, instead of restoring it, too.

can.

how to fold metal, weld, and cuss in six languages!

restore both, and the little lady and I could do cruises with his/hers

Those axles are used behind 305 and 350 TPI engines, and with the 4.3L
V-6. I doubt you'll have a problem. You can always use wheel spacers if
necessary, but there's another problem! There are wheels that have the
old GM 5x4.75" pattern and the Ford/Chryco/AMC 5x4.5" pattern, but I
think the S-10 uses the newer metric pattern. So you might need two
different sets of wheels, or have the axles and rotors drilled for the
new pattern. If you need an inch on each side you can have spacers made
with the new pattern, but they are kind of pricey. Check with local
shops and see what they would charge for redrilling the hubs and rotors
first.

AMC-15 itis available with vented discs too and there are a bunch of
them around fairly cheap. Plus it can be had with 3:42 gears. The
spring perches would need moved and 1" wheel spacers would put it back
at correct width or deeper dish wheels. I'm just thinking on this for
now as one step at a time is good enough. Anyone have any thoughts?

Just get the axle nuts loosened and torqued to spec, you should be
fine! I was doing clutch dumps in my much heavier Classic wagon with
the 4.0L, T-96 (just in first gear!), stock 3.31 torque tube axle. The
TT doesn't allow any twisting of the springs, so it all goes to the
axles! Never a problem. I was running close to stock tires with a "one
legger", but those axles are tougher than people think. Many AMX racers
use them on 10 second cars with no problems (well, those are model 20s,
but same type hub/axle). I wouldn't worry about the hubs as long as the
nuts are retorqued (250-300 lb/ft).

one of my AMC15 axles as dependingon offest and the hub diameter the ZJ
brakes may bolt onto the AMC15. That would be easy, but still leave the
two piece axles. which I figure are the weak link in the picture
anyway. I'm somewhat afraid that once I put the World class T-5 in it
I'll be a little more prone to dump the clutch once and a while! With
the 255/60/15's and the 4.0L making as much power as some of the small
8's. I'm guessing it won't be too long before I break SOMETHING!

here in iraq, i work on trucks called a HET (heavy equipment transporter) made by oshkosh. they got that detroit 8V92 series 2 stroke diesel turbo/supercharged motors. i replace them quite often as these guys drive the ever livin dog piss out of them almost nonestop. these trucks use these weatherpack conectors thru almost the entire truck. they are GREAT. i would recomend them to anyone. they got a great thru pannel connector with maybe 18-20 wire terminals in it. cut a hole in the pannel the size you need, 2 bolt holse on either side, bolt it to the pannel, and the connector sits on the other side with a 1/4 stud on the other side of the connector to hold it on the mounted side. they are water tight, and very secure connections. since they came up on the list, i see they actually sell them. i never knew that. hmm... been needing to rewire the 62 classic..... i guess im goin to have to get to gether everything i need now to wire it with their connectors. wonder if you
could use a painless wiring kit, with these connectors??.... hmm.. interesting.

by the way, has anyone on the list here ever rewired with one of them painless wiring muscle car kits?? or any of the painless wiring kits at all? just wondering how "painless" they really make it. heck, i been rewiring HETS that have wires that are all black, just #'s on them. anything with colors now will be NO PROBLEM. i am the only guy in our unit who has any experience with electrical. anyway, have a great day all.
