I removed the passenger door yesterday on the 1977 Gremlin X intending to change the hinge bushings. The literature says 1977 and later cars got the heavy bushings. I had ordered these bushings from APD. I found that they were too big for the hinge holes and I was cussing Doug at APD, then I decided to research the list archives. The heavy bushings were supposed to fit. Luckily I had three of the 1976-earlier bushings (J3609194) from an earlier project and was able to re-use one unworn bushing. If you are intending to re-bush the hinges on a 77 model car I suggest you have some of both part numbers on hand. According to the paperwork and warranty card which came with the car, it was originally sold in Kennewick, WA to a Mr. Ewing. It was subsequently owned by a bar owner in a small Nevada town and then sat outside the bar for about 25 years. The condition of the car is described in the auction narrative. It is a 770 model and has the bucket seats and console along with the aluminum 196. Auction ends later today. Item No. 150012698357. I had a friend who had a '77 Pinto and it had a huge hatch, much bigger than the Gremlin's. What's with that? How odd. Make sure the trans pan is the exact same shape so it's not a 904!) That or find someone with a 2wd AMC 727 to swap. (I can forward this to the Jeep lists) From: "Eddie Stakes" <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] 360/727 from jeep to javelin questions Cc: harry bublitz <nash126@xxxxxxxxxxx> Info needed, I'm looking for somebody that knows AMC automobiles inside and out. I have a 68 javelin sst project going on i recently bought a 1980 AMC j10 jeep 4x4 with a 360-V8 with headers and a 727 automatic transmission. my question is since this is a 4x4 with a transfer case what am i going to have to do to make this tranny work in my 68 javelin? Unfortunately the headers won't work unless i pound the tubing some on the passenger side and I'm not willing to do that. So if any body needs these 0-miles on them let me know thanks. And Ed thanks for the use on your great AMC site.
