Unfortunately none of the parts mentioned in the article are available any more. But there is one way to increase internal pressure -- replace the Primary Regulator Spring with a slightly stiffer one, or put a couple washers/shims under the retainer. The spring is easy to find -- there is a clip on retainer on the side of the valve body. It's near the electric downshift solenoid, but on the main body. You mean the FMX Ralph (not FMC), but I'll forgive you since you have "AMC" on the brain -- like many of us here!! ;> The rebuild kits are only slightly different for the Ford FMX and BW trans. Gears, clutch plates, and bands are the same. It also has a separate bell and main trans body. If the bolt pattern is the same, the transmissions could conceivably be exchanged. I know the Ford units have a different valve body, but I'm not sure about input and output shaft splines. I have been told early in my AMC days about Hornets with Ford FMX auto transmissions, but even then I knew the BW was realted to the FMX. When I corrected one person, they got irate and told me they knew it was a Ford because Ford parts were used by the rebuilder. I didn't press the issue -- but BW and FMX transmissions share most internal parts. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!) -------------- Original message ---------------------- Message: 13 Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2006 13:10:47 -0700 From: "RetroRalph" <retroralph@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] BW M12 tran question To: <amc-list@xxxxxxx> Message-ID: <003001c667db$2d5e2080$6400a8c0@ralphs1> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1; reply-type=original Here is an article on the M-11 and how B&M beefed up this transmission. I don't know how close it is to the M12. but maybe there is some info there for you. It is about half way thru the newsletter page... I heard of local trans shops replacing BW autos with FMC autos. Don't know if was entire Transm or if just the FMC guts in the AMC case. ______________________________________________________________ Ralph Ausmann _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.wps.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list or go to http://www.amc-list.com
