You can view a small version of the ad version of my
Gremlin GT at this Webdress :

Not as impressive as the big ad, but still, now I'm in
cyberspace as well. :)

Hi All,
Feel free to pass this note along to anyone that might need
any of this stuff.
All from a 1972 Javelin SST (and more available, inquire)-
Front grille, very nice shape. All tabs intact, one hairline
Crack (easy, invisible fix).
Tail light housings and lenses, complete set minus 'grille'
overlays, nice driver quality, could be made better for
cruiser or maybe even show car?
Standard gauge cluster with clock (no bezel- just the cluster).
Blue Dashpad, non-A/C version, no warpage or damaged mounts.
All have been listed on eBay with many HUGE photos, all
ending next Sunday. See:
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZjwramc
Thanks,
John W Rosa

That ground wire is for the dash and if it's loose or corroded, your dash
gauges will act weird. I had a problem with this on my 68 American and the
problems ranged from no dash lights to fuel and temp gauge reading at the
high end of their range when the headlights were on.
As an aside, you did check to see if the alternator was acting normally
with something other than the gauges in your dash, correct? Besides being
inaccurate from the start, they could also be bad.

Brendan,
I'm sure everyone appreciates your enthusiasm but I think you need to take
a step back and figure out what you really want. In the past, you've listed
that you're willing to buy just about anything AMC ever made but for your
own happiness, you need to figure out what you want. If you're not sure,
I'd suggest attending a few AMC car shows and figuring it out.
Depending upon what you're after, $1500 may not buy you very much. You may
be able to find a decent (but still needing lots of work) American or
Hornet for that but if you decide you want one of the performance cars,
that same money probably isn't going to buy you much so don't be in such a
hurry to spend it. Another benefit of taking your time is that you can sock
a little more money away while you're off finding the perfect car.
Besides, the couple places people have already suggested you look, here are
a few more:
- eBay (know exactly what you're looking for and problems specific to that
model, if you're not sure about common problems, this list would be a good
place to ask once you know what you want)
- AMC club classifieds
- Your local newspaper (you may also want to take out a want ad)
- Local salvage yards (sometimes, people take old cars there for the simple
reason they're old or they're old and have simple mechanical problems).
- Small used car lots (same advice as eBay here)
Finally, you're in an area that uses lots and lots of road salt which
usually means lots and lots of rust. If you're willing to travel a few
hundred miles, you can get out of the road salt areas and find cars with
better bodies. A mechanical disaster is going to be easier and less
expensive to fix that a cosmetic one.
