Yes:) Bid significantly more than the next up bid if you really want it. 
Much of the time that does not work either as someone else has put up a big 
up to bid as well. It's not that you are getting outbid by $1....it's the 
fact that the ebay computer, if someone else has a bigger up to bid, it bids 
for them. That is what proxy bidding means. The only way I can get something 
I really need on  ebay is to go on in the closing seconds, put in the 
absolute maximum I'd pay for the part, put it in then cross my fingers. Even 
then, it does not sometimes work. However, I have been much more successful 
that way than putting the maximum bid in days or hours before. You've heard 
of sniping on ebay? That works too but the computer trying to snipe the bid 
can not beat the ebay server that already knows your secret maximum bid. It 
automatically moves it to the next increment above the snipe bid. Make 
sense?
