"
" I have a technical question about the electrical system on my 1989 Jeep Grand
" Wagoneer. I want to know if the power feed/output on the alternator is LIVE
" all the time (directly connected to battery) or if it only has juice to/from it
" when the ignition is on and engine running.
i believe it's always hot, protected from back-discharge by the alt
diodes.
" I have built a home-made hydrogen generator (which works!) and have installed
" it on my Jeep. I WAS running juice to it from the additional lead at the
" ignition coil, but it's drawing too much juice away from the coil, so that the
" coil is not fully charging under load. When I hammer the gas peddle down, the
" engine stutters. Under normal load it's fine. After unhooking the Hydrogen
" unit, the ignition coil functions properly under load.
"
" So, basically, I am looking for a good place under the hood, to hard wire the
" Hydrogen unit, so that it is hooked into and Ignition ON wire and OFF when the
" Jeep isn't running. I thought that the alternator would be the best place for
" this, pending the wire isn't HOT when the ignition is off.
trace the harness back from the coil beyond the ballast resistor or
resistance wire, to an ignition-switched 12v.
