Bill,

The pump mounts to the left side. There are two bolt holes on the left side 
roughly under the #1 and #2 plugs and there's a second bracket that goes 
under the pump and bolts into a tapped hole on the part of the engine that 
sticks out for the timing cover (I hope that makes sense -- it's pretty 
obvious where it goes when you have the brackets in hand).

You can use the brackets from any 1964-1974 AMC 199, 232, or 258 six but 
the pump and steering gear need to come from a similar body style. I have a

reservoir design changed in the early 70's but the difference is only 
cosmetic. Pump pressures changed over the years (and V8's typically use 
higher pressure than sixes) so it's best to stay with a particular year's 
parts unless you know the pressures are compatible. Steering gears and 
pumps are easy to get and fairly inexpensive.

In 1975, the power steering pump and alternator switched places. The frame 
sill also changed to eliminate the spacer plate used on older models (the 
manual steering gear also changed to the same bolt pattern used by the 
power steering box). I belive that there are also other changes to 
accommodate revised A/C brackets and the intake manifold may have also 
changed slightly. I'm also pretty sure I've heard of people putting 75 and 
newer stuff on 74 and older cars but that it requires fabrication.
