Tom, I've recovered a car or two from floods before. The water itself does no damage if the engine wasn't running. Just drain it all and go. If it got a lot in the cylinders and you weren't pulling the head I'd say pull all plugs and roll it over with the starter a bit after pouring a little trans fluid or oil in the holes. In you case dry it out when you pull the head. If you want you can put some cheap (or even used if you have any waiting disposal) oil in and roll the engine over a bit with the starter and plugs out. The moisture that's left will all turn to steam as soon as the engine gets warmed up good. So you have nothing to worry about on the bottom end. It's when you try starting one that sucked water in the cylinders that's fun! Did you know water doesn't compress? Guess what happens when you have a cylinder 1/4 full of water and it slams to the top because another cylinder or two actually fires. Bent or broke rods!
