You can find driveable 87-90 2WD Cherokees in the south for $1200-$1500. Check Atlanta area want ads. There are several listers in the Atlanta area, and an AMC club. Wouldn't be hard to get someone to physically verify it's in good enough driving condition. Buy long distance, fly down, and drive home! Boston is about a 10-12 hour drive from Atlanta. Otherwise buy a 4x4 then get a tranny shipped up. Would be hard to get just an output shaft and tailshaft housing. Of course you could use those parts from a Lexus or Toyota -- the Supra used the AW4 as well as several Toyota trucks. Might make for an interesting speedo and driveshaft combo though!
