So, I've been thinking about my t-5 in my American again. the 4-1 first
gear leaves me desiring a little better gearing. I'm thinking of trying to
build a hybrid trans and wondering if there is anyone on the list that
knows T-5 interchanges.
I'm thinking of picking up a 82-87 F-body T-5 and swapping the gearset
into my 83 AMC t-5. This would give me the 2.95 first gear I desire. My
question is, Will it work? I think I would need to use the AMC input and
output shafts. I think I would also want to use the AMC 5th gear.
What I can find on the net leaves me to believe it will work, but does
anyone know?
I don't care that it would still leave me with a Non World Class trans.
No big deal to me. I can even find f-body transmissions. Theres one on
Ebay right now I can pick up for $175 plus shipping that looks like it
would be fine. It's opened up with lots of good pics and I'd put new brass
and bearings in it while I was at it.
Thanks for any help
