A: The Postal Jeeps used both the early and late motors with BW trans, but 
there is 2 different patterns. (We went to put the 999 from the '77 AMX I 
parted into a '76 DJ and it wouldn't fit, but it did fit a '74. Postal Jeeps 
got engine swaps every now and then, and probably they just swapped 
bellhousing during the swap. (Our mailman of the past 5 years was run over 
and killed last winter by his Jeep when it popped into reverse as the door 
banged shut and he tried to jump back in, but slid under the wheels instead)

I didn't know about the starter location change between the 196 and 
199/232!! Thanks a lot guys! The Postal Jeeps used a T-35 (M-35) behind the 
232 for a lot longer than AMC used that trans in cars, even after AMC 
switched to Torque Flites. My bet is that the mid 70s Postal Jeeps with the 
T-35 use the small pattern.

The best bet, unfortunately, would be to pull a complete 258 with TF trans 
and swap that in. Then there wouldn't be as many problems, unless a 199/232 
BW trans is located. Did you change to a different trans or overcome the 
problem AJ??
