WINDOW STICKERS, FRONT DISC BRAKES + OTHER THINGS

For prices for your repro AMC window stickers, go down to your local Barnes & Noble or Borders and check to see if they have a copy of the Standard Catalog of American Motors or the similar volume on Independents. You?ll find base prices and option prices for all years, should be exactly what you need. I have a copies of both (which I?ve used to make window stickers from the high-rez scans that I included on my 2002 Kenosha CD-ROM photo disc) which I used to make a fantasy sticker for my ?68 Rogue.

I got a price yesterday of $450 to do the front drum brakes on my ?64 American and thought, this is a good time to do a FDB upgrade instead. I know it?s probably posted somewhere, but where might I find all the needed information in one place. I need to know exactly what to take off of the donor car, what late model donor cars are best, how much should all the parts cost and what a competent mechanic should charge me for the labor. Is there anyone in Southern California, on the list, who would be interested in doing the work for me and what would you charge me? Some years back I traded a ?65 440H hardtop parts car for the job on my Gucci Sportabout (are you still on the list) so I have no idea of what the job is worth. I?d really love it if I can find someone who either has or can get the parts and do the work for me.

Next Monday I venture to Phoenix to pick up my latest orphan, the ?75 Sportabout V8 that went up three times on eBay before I closed the deal. I am calling up my contacts at DCX PR to see if the SRT-10 Ram 4-door that I know is in the LA press fleet will be available that weekend. I have a standing assignment to do an SRT-10 Ram towing story and figure that I can kill two birds with one stone, and tow the Sportabout home rather than drive it after the debacle driving the ?67 440 station wagon back from Las Vegas. Does anyone on the list in the LA area have a car trailer that I can borrow or rent? And if I get an SRT-10 Ram tow vehicle, interested in making the drive with me? Yes, the 500-horsepower Viper-powered Ram?that one, not the 340-horsepower HEMI.

OK, next issue. To make room for the Sportabout I?m seriously thinking of giving up the ?78 Concord Hatchback V8 I bought the Spring of ?03, which I have no time for. It runs but is rusty but I have a non-op 258 ?78 Concord that goes with it. The hatchback has no title so the two have to go as a pair so that a single car can be built from the combo and use the PNO waiver to get one car reregistered. I would like $750 for the pair. Anyone interested?

I may part out the pair (but the time issue comes in to play again) as both have FDB, which I need for the ?64 American and which I think work (anyone here can confirm this for me?). That brings up another opportunity, someone taking the pair and in exchange for a lower price, pull the FDB for me after towing away the pair. Again, anyone interested?

Tomorrow I hope to post an extensive list of car audio gear that?s again piling up in my dining room, no longer needed review samples that do not require return to the manufacturers. If you need something in this area, drop me a line, I have several head units, including a Becker TrafficPro AM/FM/CD navigation unit, a Rockford Fosgate (non-screen) AM/FM/DVD, amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers and radar detectors, all priced below actual dealer cost.

Finally if you?re having trouble finding the February issue of Musclecar Enthusiast, the one with the 6 ½-page Breedlove AMX feature, I?ve gotten several E-mails about it. The issue has been out for three weeks and it has sold out in three Barnes and Nobles I checked and in three other locations they are down to their last two or three copies. As the average automotive magazine has a typical sell-though rate of around 30%, this is unbelievable as the Southern California Barnes and Nobles I checked, get eight copies each, which means the sell through is more than twice the average. I?d like to think it?s because so many of you went out and bought a copy (and to those of you that did I say thank you) but I suspect it?s the photo of the 5.7-HEMI-equipped ?68 Charger in the MOPAR SEMA booth that?s on the cover which I shot. Also on the cover is a really cute model, Tara Vidal, dressed as if she stepped out of an episode of Rowan and Martin?s Laugh-In. She?s in a period-correct w!
hite PVC minidress with an Hemi Orange Dodge Scat Pack windbreaker. Since the March issue is already up on the Musclecar Enthusiast web site, I think that this is the last week you?ll be able to buy a copy on newsstands. For a list of newsstands that carry Musclecar Enthusiast, here?s a link to the newsstand locator on their web site.

Looking forward to getting some responses on Sunday.
