Leather steering wheel?

My latest purchase
Has a leather wrapped steering wheel and it has a Graphite finish of some sort[paint/Die?] Over black leather. The Graphite color is slowly coming off the wheel and while I can pick it off with my fingernail it would take several years to remove it all! Anyone have a suggestion as to what I can use to remove the graphite color and leave the black leather intact? The wheel is perfect except for the peeling graphite color.
