Brian, it looks like the standard old WCD 2V carb with an electric choke added. I don't see any "lean burn" hardware or controller. I think you just got confused by the aftermarket choke setup. The stock auto choke usually stops working because the tube running through the exhaust manifold burns up and starts letting exhaust gasses into the choke housing. That tube that screws to the choke housing isn't supposed to be ope into the exhaust manifold, but passes THROUGH the manifold. That's usually the source of an exhaust leak too, on the bottom where the tube goes on though. You can drill the tube out with the manifold off and carefully press a new one in. It has to be a tight fit. Stick the piece of tubing in the freezer over night and with a little WD-40 it slide right in then seal once it warms up. Leave the manifold out in the sun, that helps, or set it in a 200-250 degree oven for a few minutes (just don't let your wifde know what's cookin', and be careful with the hot p! iece!!). Since you've gotan electric choke you should be able to remove the tubing from the carb then just put a screw in the two holes in the manifold. The wiring on the coil doesn't look right. The yellow wire from the harness should go to the + side of the coil, then the - side should go to the distributor. Okay, on second look it appears to be connected that way, but where do those other two wires on the + side of the coil go? One probably goes to a tach, what about the other one? No matter really -- for now disconnect BOTH. The tach could be grounded internally and shorting the coil, causing a weak or no spark. I suspect the ignition switch wasn't on and that's why you got no spark when checking, but disconnect those extra wires anyway. That will eliminate two possible problems. When the car is running right hook them back up, one at a time, to make sure they aren't part of the problem. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http//:farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!) -------------- Original message ---------------------- > From: "Brian Hagen" <brian.hagen@xxxxxxxxxxx> > To: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > Subject: Mooing-Spewing- 65Rambler wont' start > Date: Fri, 26 Nov 2004 15:46:24 -0500 > > http://www.brianhagen.com/enginebay/index.htm > > Also for extra credit!
