In regards to the H2, it's probably going to go the way of the Studebaker - ironically in the same town. I live in South Bend, former home of Studebaker. The town just about dried up when Stude went away back in '63. Now the H1 and H2 are built here. With gas over $2 a gallon, the H2 may be in jeopardy. AMC owned a lot of stuff here in South Bend. Wheel Horse used to be owned by AMC. They built lawn and garden tractors and equipment. I knew several people who worked there. Their paychecks were from AMC. The South Bend plant closed many years ago. Gee, sometime in the late '80's. Toro tried to carry on for a while in Elkhart, but they shut down too. AMC owned the Hummer plant at it's inception, thus the name AM General. They also built heavy trucks for the military right here in South Bend. When Chrysler bought AMC and sold it off, not only did Kenosha feel the impact, other places, such as South Bend IN were hurt as well. So the next time you see an old Wheel Horse tracto!
r, it's probably an AMC!!
The H2's are not selling that well - the plant shut down one shift and is cutting hours. The H1 plant is going strong since the H1's are getting blown up by the terrorists, unfortunately with our people in them. Fortunately, we build them well and lives have been spared. AMC engineers are still working for us today. The original Hummer is still used by our military and still saves lives and gets the job done.
AMC Lives on!

The H3 is being born very slowly and carefully by General Motors.
Quality is of concern to an unusual extent. The line speed is starting out
much slower than with the recent introduction of the new mid sized GM
pickups, the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon. I think it will remain
slower for quality's sake.
I am usually the pessimist at these times, but I have been working here
at the plant where and when both of these new vehicles were introduced and I
can see the difference. I may be wrong, but I predict that the attention to
detail with the new smaller Hummer will stay as with the Corvette and
Cadillac lines.
I very well know that this vehicle is no longer built by AMC, so there is
no need to flame, but if anyone may be thinking about a new purchase from
this market for the family ranch or to tow their AMC race car, this is my
inside information.

Gary, will these new H3's be cheaper?and obviously they will sell well as the H2's are selling like hotcakes even tho gas has skyrocketed in price
