Neil,
Most AMC vendors carry the clip you need or you may be able to find one on the HELP! rack at your local parts store. It's the same one that Chrysler used on a lot of their cars in the 70's. I have seen them on HELP! racks so I know that you can still get them. The clip is an oval shape spring clip that has a tang that wraps back over a keyhole shaped opening that the piviot slips into. Sorry I don't have a pic.
