I'd make sure to check the wiring very carefully for cracked insulation and 
loose terminals. You car does not have any type of protection for the 
wiring between the battery/alternator and the fuse panel and you can end up 
with burnt wiring very easily. The wiring harness in my `66 Rebel had a few 
shorts when I got it and I ended up with a fried wiring harness.

Also, I have 1966 car wiring diagrams on my website 
(http://www.mattsoldcars.com) in the Technical Information section. I don't 
know if 1965 and 1966 is exactly the same but AMC was very consistent in 
their wiring so it should be close enough.
