Marty, A 600 cfm carb is barely big enough for a stock 401 let alone one bored 30 over with Indy heads, an Air Gap intake, 2500 stall and a cam. The cam sounds like a good choice for a mild -medium street build but a little short on duration for the stall converter you have. It should work fine but you may benefit from just a little more duration. The balancing factor may be that you have such a low gear ratio that the stall might equal out the difference and help you get out of the hole. Where are they saying the peak torque is on that cam? Either way, I think you will like a 750 on that engine much better especially with the increased intake flow of the Indy heads. Like most of us who have been there many times before have posted in the past, AMC V-8 engines love more fuel than typically required for a Ford or Chevy of the same size. Thanks for your help. 1st reply from Reed: What is your desired power range? My reply: The Air Gap manifold range is 1500-6500 but I don't > think I'll ever be that high(I think the 600cfm carb > will limit the top end as well). I'm most concerned > with mid to low range power (1500-5000?). I hope this makes sense. Reed recommendation: I suggest a TM272/276h10a2 grind. It's specs are 272/276 advertised duration, 218/223 duration at .050 and .491/.502 lift. 110 lobe sep and install it on 106 intake centerline. Cost is $123.40. Comments?
