After a month long struggle with the Delco alt. installation it was time to move on to the next repair. Being this car is going to be a daily driver to replace my rust bucket 77 Chevy I am not only doing repairs but preventative maintainance and replaceing 30 year old parts of questionable condition in order to have a nice driver that I can depend on. Yesterday It was time to go for new motor mounts and a tranny mount. A good call on my part as I had a feeling the tranny mount was questionable. It came out in 3 pieces. One of the motor mounts was boxed wrong and I had to wait an hour to get the right one. Luckily I was even able to get the right one without haveing to wait a day or so for it. Now the car is together and when I started it up it heard a wirring noise that wasen't there before changeing the motor mounts. The alt. was resting against the steering box and I guess the noise was the internal rotating noise of the alt. resonateing through the steering box. A 1/4" Al! uminum spacer on the drivers side motor mount cured the clearance and noise problem. I was told by a freind that I should put a similar size spacer on the pass side because useing only one on the drivers side will cause stress on the new tranny mount. Anyone care to coment on this?
