Re: vacuum wipers & Vega ( Nomad ) wagon, Jerk-testing ,popularity, REstoring..

First of all, I HATE the vac setup! My '70 Hornet came off the road
because it couldn't hack it in the winter weather. I bought an electric setup for
it, never got around to installing it, though. I guess with a rebuild, and a
vacuum tank accessory, it would probably be ok.
Speaking of Chevy Vegas, I saw a SWEET, rare model at a show last Sunday,
it was a rare Nomad version, apparently not sold on the East coast, only out
west. I took some pictures of it , it was an awesome looking car. Maroom with a
black vinyl top, sunroof, slanted B-pillar, Nomad gold script. It was a GM
authorized model by an after-market company for conversion. Never thought I'd
really LOVE a Vega, I've always liked the Sedan Delivery versions, but THIS one
was special. I'd drive one myself!
On the Jerk-tester theory, it seems to work well with any AMC model,
but the Gremlin is DEFINITELY a magnet for picking out those who've learned to
talk coherently from the bottom end, a feat never covered in Ripley's Believe
It or Not. It is amazing what twisted tales emerge from otherwise
human-looking bipedal creatures posing as intelligent individuals. But it IS funny to hear
some of them, and you can only shake your head at their sad state of
ignorance. Oh well, we'd never get THIS level of entertainment from owning a Mustang
or Chevelle, now would we? LOL. Maybe that's one reason we like the cars so
much, to keep ourselves entertained by other people's skewed view of AMC-dom. I
know I enjoy it!
As far as "popularity" goes, I feel like some of you...I don't like to
have what is popular or what "everyone else" has. I like being different. Of
course, if you get enough people together who enjoy the same "being different"
car, aren't WE all the same? LOL. Heck, they made millions of VW Bugs, but
people who owned them in the USA were considered Counter-culture, so what the
heck. Guess you can be different together on a grand scale and still be an "
individualist ".
And, sadly, I must admit I too have done more "storing" than REstoring
of my cars ( and Gremlins ), BUT, in my defense, as the crushing and
disappearance of more and more Gremlins and other oddball and old cars occur, I am
trying to SAVE them for the future. it may not be in MY future, or at my hands,
but someone else may have the opportunity to drive a Gremlin I have owned ,
than just read about them, or see my one "good" one at a show every now and then.
I just feel that the parts ( and cars ) shouldnt' disappear as quickly as
they are going now. Parts are getting scarcer, and if you don't have a spare
parts car, you'll have a harder time fixing it. I seem to acquire 2-3 cars of the
same type, once I get one car , and tend to buy spare parts, even if I'll
never use them. Just my mentality. :)
Looks like I'll be doing some OT this Saturday, and if the weather
holds, and the honey-do's hold OFF, I may try to get some time in on at least
ONE of my Gremlins. Never seem to have much time lately, with all the east-coast
rain we've gotten all summer long here , Virginia especially in the northern
areas. But I need to make some more progress, I now have NONE of my 8 running.
sigh. Time to get busy. Hope everyone has a great weekend. signing off,

Jerry in VA ( owner, 8 Gremlins )
