I was at that show a couple of years ago and there was a couple of Gremlin's. What cyl. head are you buying?? Olly Brien Tourville wrote: 1. Re: Blank - . - Olly dude - 'Hemimeister' :) - I just purchased 2 cylinder heads from Rooster James : 1970 reads ..3211040-1 with a casting date....april-15-1970 1974 reads...3224490 with a casting date ...feb-8-1974 According to NHRA parts are what year etc. rules : the 3211040 is a 1971 cyl. head - with the shaft style rocker arm and the updated intake / exhaust raised ports AMC spent bu koo $$ doing flow research on. This is the First Year of these Hi Port Open Chamber Cyl. Heads. The 3224490 is the First of the Last 1975 - 76 Stud Rocker Arm Style Open Chamber Cyl. Heads. On the Chris Morrison Mojo Jav. site :) http://members.tripod.com/~Mojo_Page/Mods.htm Chris laid out the BluePrints to create a HIGH PERFORMANCE roller rocker assembly - the one he uses campaigning on his racer - BluePrints are there and FREE to download. He runs the '69 Large Port Head - which is the one that AMERICAN MOTORS took to the Flow Bench and redesigned into the 1971 - 1976 Hi Port Open Chamber Head. This design is MORE stable than a later day Stud Rocker Arm assembly run on the Team AMC with the Ford Big Block Rocker Arms and a custom Stud Girdle. For All You Stud Rocker Arm Inline 6 owners - Mr. Morrison took it to the Design Table again - (he is an Engineer ) - along with Harland Sharp and they produced AFFORDABLE ROLLER ROCKER ARMS for Stud AMC Inline 6 Engines.. $220.00 a complete Kit and are made to your order - go ahead.....beat that! This is a bargain . MoPar is nearly $600.00 since they gyp you by selling them in "Pairs" & are made by Hesco . Check these out : http://home.everestkc.net/greyhnds/rocker.html I'm building a Turbo Motor & have done the Homework on the important part - Combustion Chambers . The Open Chamber Heads are BEST for Supercharged or Turbocharged Engines - similar to the Chrysler HEMI - only shallower - flatter . The effect is one quench area. The valves are seperated quite a bit by design - this allows a cooling passage for the Exhaust Valve between the two valves - to make for a super high mileage - long life cyl. head. Torching of Exhaust Valves in Turbo Engines is rare but does happen to Race Boost Engines. I'll run a 1997 - 2001 4.0 Jeep shortblock with the twice as thick cylinder walls & the larger piston bores . A maxed up 1980 12 counterweight crank tossing Manley Forged rods with Venolia or Keith Black slugs. Turbo is from a 262 GM . Just finished a SAE (society of automotive engineers) Paper on the redesign of these inline 6 heads. Lots of flow bench time coming up with the port work. Alot of it went to waste on the 1977 - 1988 AMC engines as changes were made for Pollution and low rpm engine running for fuel consumption interests . Combustion Chambers went to semi - closed items . Brien 1981 AMC 'milners coupe'
