Subject: Re: Gremlin drive report : 4 days driving a '74 Gremlin... Mildred : Don't forget - use only Distilled Water . Same as the water for use in Irons - Shop Rite has it . Ditto for the Battery . Tap water has minerals & will clog the lead plates in the battery - making it weak & eventually useless . Virtually the same scenario for the Radiator . Shine a flashlite into the radiator. If you see allot of white deposits on the copper fins - have the radiator "boiled out" and "paint sealed" at the local Radiator shop. Squeeze the hoses. If they feel firm and taut - they are OK . If they are "spongee" - replace them . Use an antifreeze mix in the Radiator. This keeps your boiling point very high - which means it won't boil over in hot stop and go traffic. Read the labels on the different makes. Some are "wild life friendly" while most are not. Anti - Freeze in water supplies is fatal to animals. This makes changing the Anti - Freeze difficult as where are you going to dump this where it won't get into the water supply later ? Brien 1981 GREMLIN 4X4 'fresh from the car wash'
