Re: [gremlintime] appraisal

Hi Karla!

I recently finished restoring my '72 Gremlin X. It is "Surfside Turquoise" with a black bucket seat interior and a 258/3-speed. When I went to insure it, I came up with the same problem. I work at a car dealership here in Illinois and so I took it to a used car dealer that I know that does a lot of classic cars. He consulted a book that showed a class 1 car at $5,000 to $5,500. (My car is nice, but I am not completely sure that it would qualify as a class 1.) Anyway, he wrote an appraisal on his letterhead and copied the pages from the book that he had, and I gave it to my insurance company.

As far as a retail price is concerned, my used car manager says that if he had my car on our used lot, he'd price it at $7,500.00. I can't imagine that there would be much difference in value between a "72 and a "74.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!

Ok, does anyone have any idea what a reconditioned 1974 Gremlin is worth? We need to have an appraisal done for insurance purposes but none of the auto appraisers in this area have any idea what one is worth. We have been told that it won't be worth what we have in it which I can understand but we'd like to know if the appraisal, when we have it done, is anywhere in the ballpark.

Our car's almost done. Just a few screws in the door panels. Getting new tires tomorrow. Should have pictures soon!

Thanks!
Karla Dick
