dry start

don't let him just start it.dumb thing to do. the problem is oil. all the oil has by now completely drained out of the engine. first check the exhaust.I have see bent valves from a mouse nest, same with the air cleaner. next pull all the spark plugs, throw them out,and get some marvels mystery oil,or 5w30, if you do not have excess to marvels.put about 3-4 ounces in each cylinder and carburetor,
let car sit over night, then turn the car over by hand a few times the turn the car over with the starter a few minutes.this will get oil flowing.now check for things like belts, alternator, ac pump, water pump,to make shore all are turning,I have seen an engine pulled out because the owner thought it was looked up do to an ac pump locked up(this was on a Chevy v6 with a serpentine belt) most likely yours would just snap the belt.if points equipped change them.now put your new plugs in and reinstall the plug wires and fire that mother up let it run at about 1500 rpms for 5 minutes check for leaks(oil radiator,} if you want to drive it check all the steel and rubber brake parts for rust out put the car in neutral and let run for 5 more minutes if its an automatic (the transmission will not pump oil in park).don't worry about smoke at first all the oil in it that you purred in will smoke pretty bad for a short time. ok now your set. I just started a 1959 rambler American with 75,000 mls on it that sat in a barn since the summer of 1989, it runs excellent.
