I've bought and sold six or eight gremlins over the years, and $3-5k doesn't seem realistic to me unless it's a V-8 or near perfect. I sold a pretty nice 1972 a few years ago for $1800, and a 1977 for $1650. There seems to be among Gremlin enthusiasts, a huge difference between what people expect to pay for a car and what they expect to sell a car for. It's hard to get much for a Gremmie because most Gremlin lovers don't seem to have much money, and the ones that have the bucks are really picky. But to answer your question "is there any interest" by which I assume you mean interest with money behind it, in my opinion there would be a lot of interest at $500, some interest at $1500, and little or no interest at $3000 or more.
Of course, if you really like the Gremlin, you could buy it back from State Farm, keep it and enjoy it, dents and all, and thin out your fleet by selling something else. onree in Nebraska On the other hand, one apparently sold for $12k on ebay a couple of weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-American-Motors-Gremlin-X-12-8XX-original-miles-/121007490104?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c2c9bc438#ht_504wt_1167

NOT SURE IF WENT THRU EARLIER DID YOU SELL THE GREMLIN
I've gotten a whole lot of emails asking how much we want for the car. We have no idea what to ask. I tried to find some current values, then subtract what State Farm said the PDR would cost, and that puts it anywhere in the $3-5k range, but no idea what a -true- value for the car would be. We first just wanted to gauge if there was any interest before we tell State Farm we'd want to buy it back.
Maybe I should ask here then. What's a fair price for a very solid, all-original, great condition 1977 X with 17k miles? If we could nail that down, then subtract the damage claim amount + a bit extra, we would know what to ask.
They are being very fair actually. We had an agreed value policy, and they honored it without hesitation. We have the option to "buy back" the car, so to speak, and we wanted to gauge any interest folks might have in it before we make the final decision. It's still a fantastic car, and the dings aren't really visible from 10' away. Most are on the hood and easy to get to.
If we were buying rather than thinning down the fleet, we would pick up this car in a heartbeat. Having 9 cars has us spread too thinly. Hello All, My wife has a very nice & extremely solid 1977 Gremlin X, light blue, white interior, 258 6-cylinder w/an automatic trans, radio, aftermarket air conditioning and 17k-ish miles. We have displayed it as a "survivor" at a few events and it is in remarkably good condition -- only a few speckles of surface rust where the paint has chipped (mostly on the rocker panels). On the Fourth of July this year, we had it in the driveway with the cover on, and it was caught in the "derecho" storm that went through. We had hail damage two three cars total, though the Gremlin had the least damage -- probably due to the Noah cover's help absorbing the impacts. The car is now speckled with multiple very small dents. It's entirely possible that they could be safely removed with paintless dent removal, though the PDR folks were hesitant to do so due to it having all original paint. If they paint chipped, they said, it would necessitate repainting the whole car to match the color -- and it that would be over State Farm's limit for the repairs. For anyone looking for a '77, this one is in otherwise great shape, very clean, and runs & drives just fine. There are a few pictures up of the car at amcgremlin.com. It's very hard to photograph the car's current dings -- they are small, and it's very hard to capture them in photos. We are looking to see if anyone might be interested in purchasing the car from us before we let State Farm just take it away. The car would be sold with a salvage certificate. Price is very negotiable. We would just hate to see this car go to scrap over some hail dings. If you are interested, please contact us directly at dave dot stragand at amcgremlin dot com. The car is located a little north of Pittsburgh, PA Thanks, Dave & Juley
