Good point. As I understand it, he bought it from another - he was not  
the original owner. IF the warranties are transferable, he probably did  
not have the receipt, etc. I think it was in a vehicle that had been  
involved in an accident and he bought it for parts.

What I find odd is that the Jasper engine wasn't repaired or replaced  
under warranty.  I've had a couple non-AMC Jasper engines, and they had  
a 50,000 mile/5 year warranty.

I think I would stay away from that engine. being a jasper   engine, it  
of course has already been rebuilt once, and with it knocking with    
only 3000 miles on it, it is one to pass on..

What state are you in? If members know where you are, i'm   sure someone  
has one sitting in their pile of treasures. I know I have one   sitting  
here in MN.

I've been looking for a 360 for my Gremlin that I can rebuild as a  
winter   project. Found a guy locally who has a 360 Jasper engine taken  
out of a 90   Grand Wagoneer. What's the deal with these? It is apart,  
supposedly has 3k   miles on it.He took it to an engine shop because it  
had a knock, but then got   a deal on a complete engine and never did  
anything with this engine. He tells   me the engine shoppe mechanic said  
the knock was from an improperly machined   cam.???
Advice?
