Just remember when you are sitting the points you set them when they are on the high side.

Points aren't that difficult to set.  If you set the gap at .019 and your motor won't start, I would start checking other items in the system.  Does it have spark, and if it does is it a bright blue spark or kind of weak.  either of these could be the coil or condenser. Are your plugs and wires in good shape.  Is your timing correct?  Just start with the simple basics stuff, and I bet you fine the problem.

ok, .016 it is....

now, what about this "dwell setting" I dont have a dwell meter, and im trying to get this thing running again... I messed with the points and now it wont start..

sure wish there was an hei style distributor I could drop in and make all these point issues go away..

guess thats why I love my GMs. my 72 Riv was easy, drop in the HEI, run a new power lead to it and set the base timing..

my ears are open, whatcha got guys?
