All good advice from everyone. I used to run a stock ignition in my AMXs and set dwell at 30 and gap at .017 and never found any extra et with any other setting. Clocks dont lie.

Hi Davis, I think AMC had ignition points well past 1973; as the photo is off my 1 owner low miler 74 Hornet Sportabout and it is points as I had to set them. I also have 2 1974 AMXs and a 74 Javelin all points distributors one has to set dwell.

Eddie, great pic, unfortunately it doesn't help him. AMC had electronic ignition in 1974. That sticker just shows spark plug gap as no points after 1973.

initial point gap should be between 31-and 34, correct? its been so long since i set-up points on one of these I've forgotten.
