Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: Ideas for 78 Gremlin grill replacement

Hve you tried looking online on sites like car-part.com ? I know where there are 3 or 4 of those Gremmys in a junkyard here in Maine. I can get you info if you are interested. I think there is a '78 AMX  there too. I think it still has a grill in it,

That is what I was talking about. So you can find them at Home Depot. I would get the white ones and paint them silver or gray. That is the color of my grill. Cut out holes and mount the turn sigals in them. Would it be perfect no but I don't think it would look to bad.

I have a 78 also and was thinking of using a plastic covers that HOME DEPOT sells for covering florescent lights.  They have them in white (to paint) or chrome.  Only thing is the squares are about 1 inch square but it would likely look OK.  You could get creative and remove some of them to make rectangles if desired.

Terry,

I like both of these ideas. I will have to see if any of the local hardware stores have the plastic grid in stock so I can get a better vision of what it will look like.

My biggest mistake with the metal mesh was painting it black. It made it see-through, with a clear view of the radiator.

Thanks!

Years ago in my mothers old house she had a drop ceiling in the house. When she had central air and heat put in the house they took out one of the twoxfour squares and put in a 2x4 plastic grid. Then they use to use a grid for florescent lights years ago. Another suggestion would be leave what you have in there and get you three or four chrome bars and run across the front of it. I was thinking of shower curtain rods but they might be too big. I know a hundred years ago it seems now my brother had a 49 Ford and someone gave him a bunch of round chrome drawer knobs and he made a grill out of them. Unfortunately our front end is different from the rest so while I might be wrong only a 77 or 78 will fit.
