Tery, several reasons for this.....one is many brand x folks have been
priced out of their favorite model or marque so go to a plan b, sometimes a AMC.
Two is the explosion of reproduction items available for AMC that have come onto
the market in last 15 years as technology continues to improve. Stuff I never
thought would see done include a handful of items like those simulated exhaust
rocker moldings for Javelin and 70 AMX, 70 AMX grilles, aluminum heads, timing
chain covers, group 15 passenger side mirrors for 68-69, and 70-74, 68-69 and 70
AMX & Javelin tail lights & housings, so good time to be a AMCer. It was
not too long ago that people would buy a say, 70 AMX to cannibalize it for the
uber rare and high dollar parts. I only wish a fraction of the stuff available
in 2011 was around in 1980s as we would not have seen so much rampant
cannibalism of the cars. Six banger Javelins no one cared about for instance,
they were AMX fodder.    The high dollar cars you see at shows, whether a Gremlin or Javelin....a
lot has changed, from rust panels to repairing dents to whole suspensions and
brakes now. Even painting techniques have changed. I joke with customers daily
that when I drive under I-10 near my house, I tell the homeless guy with 6 pit
bulls tied to his shopping cart to 'hook me up with a set of red 68-69 AMX go
pack stripes, see you in hour' and he whips out his lazer printer and makes
them. Everyone has them it seems. So lots of new items on the market improves
the quality and hopefully, the longevity of these old cars.

Of course I am a big skeptic still though this whole hobby has been
around for a lot of years. I just can't believe that there are that many left.
Then if a gut as had one in his barn for 40 years how are you going to get him
to sale it. Now if you told me you found an AMC in a barn I might believe
that. Nobody has wanted it for the last 40 years. I know I am seeing quite a
few high dollar new cars showing up at shows. I don't know but personally I
think a lot of them are coming out of a book. Terry

Another "key" word one sees in last 2 years is "barn find" there are more
  barns than McDonalds now!

Yea and it means the same thing. I had a plane jane one and bought a
stripe kit and a hood scope from JC Whitney and you can hardly tell the
difference between it and a true xxxx car.  They open the hood and
there is a 6 banger sitting in there. I know it says 390 on the side
but it is a trubute to the real one man. What do you expect.

Maybe it is just me but seems everyone started using word 'clone' until
it was overused, then started using word 'tribute' until now it too is
    really common.

          | You got that right ! I drove one back in 1970 and
they are worthless on the street. AMC is the only way

In my opinion there is nothing you could do to improve on a
1970 Boss Mustang except trade it off for a a Gremlin X, AMX
              or a Javelin Terry
