I used a carpet from them for my 71 SC/360. I called some of the big box
AMC vendors but no one makes a carpet kit......for a 4 speed on floor Hornet. AT
no problem, even homeless guy with 6 pit bulls tied to shopping cart under I10
can hook you up, but no 4speed floor carpets. Jeff Kennedy, who is a longtime
friend of mine, asked me to send my old carpet up to be used as a template. The
problem is...is that it was a 1971 carpet. Cut pile and just looking at it the
thing would fall apart. I wore air mask when removing it and scraping up the
jimmy hoffa remains of it simply because I do not know what company supplied
carpet to AMC in 1970 when it was made...and whether it has abestos, tnt, ddt or
any other airborne baddies in it.
I do not know where the big box guys get carpet kits from, but sort of like
weatherstrips, everyone gets most of them from Metro Moulded Parts and resells
them, so similiar with carpets, stripe kits and more.
I forgot to put the ACC link also:
but was pleasantly surprised at the fit. Side note here, the reason I quit
carrying carpet kits for AMX & Javelin in the 1990s is that like many
things, carpet can shrink. It can be rolled up sitting in warehouse for years
exposed to heat, humidity, cold, moths, whatever. I bought a carpet kit for the
100th AMC I had owned, a 68 AMX 343/AT from a major AMC vendor years ago in
Sunshine State and after almost fully installing it...discovered it was short.
So had to pull it all back up, pads, damned glue everywhere, rebox it in another
box, send it back and wait for 6 months to get my $250 refund. So it's why I
advocate having carpets done 'fresh' from a place like ACC. And I have never
stocked carpet kits again.
