Didn't see that coming category. However as many places go 'paperless' I guess could see it coming. Some of my credit cards have been begging me to go paperless. For many years.....during the AMC SouthWest Regional meet scattered about Texas, since I advertised with Auto Trader....I would ask them to donate classic car rags. It was always a big hit and gave the crew, which was based less than mile away on Post Oak north of I-10....a reason to come by & have a few adult beverages I would come them a few buckets of beer at the Scoreboard was managing at that time. The Texas Classic Car Traders & Houston Auto Trader they give me about 250 of each, and each one had a $5 discount coupon inside it in case any AMCers (or strays at the meet) wanted to advertise their car in the rags. The magazines were free and the Houston club would put them on a table with other freebies and the magazines were always a big hit. We even did it for the AMC AMC National meet in 2001 and hundreds of magazines were gone in the 4 days of event, picked up not only by AMC fans....but also people who had seen the big free ad in Auto Trader about this meet and came from region and around country. So give them something to read in hotel room out of the 99 degree heat. The magazines they would donate were usually 1 month old. In other words, when the distributors would drive about weekly and drop off new magazines, they pick up old ones and drag them back and they would save them for car clubs, or people who walked into the Post Oak office and placed a ad, great recruiting tool, they would also drop them off at auto related places like Hi Lo Auto Parts, NAPA, Auto Zone to name a few...and many times, more customers come if it due to exposure. Too bad about no more old car rags like this. Just not the same looking at blah computer screen or kindle, at old cars for sale. But maybe where we are headed....seeing major newspapers close up shop after 100 years due to decline in subscriptions. Even had a guy come by my house yesterday asking if I wanted to continue to subscribe to Houston Chronicle, first time that has ever happened.
