I'm used to working on Chevy motors and the thrust bearing is on the rear main.  Moved it to the center and all is fine.

Ed, Please clarify a bit... You make reference to the REAR main, and then make reference to the THRUST bearing.... The thrust bearing is the center one, not the rear...
