On Ed's comments about getting bumpers rechromed.....the EPA has shut down
many rechroming places in last 10 years, very regulated, even in big metro areas
like Houston. One company was busted dumping chemicals in sewers for instance.
Granted, few like that, but used to be about 20 chrome places, now only handful.
And like I mentioned with fiberglass, not all rechroming places created
equal. I have a list of 'locals only' in my AMC LINKS section of places I
recommend, including a chroming place here. Some places I would not let them
rechrome a go cart bumper, as they suck....one place I had redo my bumpers on my
69 SC/Rambler wagon...the chrome started peeling off 4 years later. Warrantied
for one year, well that really helps. So if someone asks me about having
bumpers rechromed...I tell them take them to DC Bumper on Tellespen, they have
done over 200 bumpers for me thru years, they are triple plate show chrome, they
knock out all dents, can fill and weld splits, beat them back into shape,
denickle, and dechrome them and rechrome them professionally for about $350 a
bumper; and you will find some of their bumpers on Gold Level AMO cars people
have sent me to deliver to DC. Superior, Houston, Quality, the place on Aldine
Westfield, they suck, period.
On the fellow who asked this: "I have a 70 Gremlin that could use new
bumpers. If the '73 F/R are
factory/metal, chromed and similar enough to the '70 model, I'd be interested in 1 each for the F/R." If you are looking for actual metal bumpers for the 70 Gremlin, you might
try Richard Estermeyer on my VENDORS list who is parting out something like
10-20 Gremlins and Hornets:
his contact information on there, again, he 'might' have some good steel
cores.
