Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Need Help

Wow this is a big help. I have a slight misfire at idle with my '76 258 Hornet.
I think I might have a burnt valve though.I might look into egr valve also. The '77 probably has an egr valve. I have all winter to tinker with it until spring.
I am interested to see what other ideas others have.

Does it just idle a little rough or does it miss when you get on it. I would have to agree with the coil or maybe the distibutor. If Doc was still with us he would tell you to pull that electronic distributor out of it and replace it with one with a set of points in it. The other things I would suggest is it still has a slight vacum leak somewhere. EGR valve if it has one on it. I don't know about the 77, 232 but my 77, 258 didn't have all the polution crap on it when it came out the factory. My 78, 232 does. I am sure you have changed the PCV valve. I have seen the heat riser cause problems too. If it doesn't miss when you get on it I don't know if you have a problem or not. Don't know you experience but I have never gotten a 6 to idle as smooth as an 8 and four bangers are even worse.

1977 232 6 Cyl Auto, New fuel pump, fuel filter, kit in carburator, vacuum hoses replaced, new plugs, wires, rotor cap and rotor. Compression check at 120 pounds or better on each cyl. New Ignition Control Module. New air filter in air cleaner. Just replaced the whole exhaust from manifold, converter, open flow muffler. Gremlin was stored inside for the last 17 years. Why is this thing still slightly missing at low speeds and at idle? I am about ready to pull the 3 strands of hair that is still attached to my scalp. Someone please tell me what will fix. The fuel tank has been cleaned also.
Thanks
Billy
