If is not making noise throw a can of stp in it. It won't fix the problem but the oil pressure will come up and you will feel better The first thing I would do is change the oil sending unit . They can do some strange things. The last engine I had rebuilt when I got it back the gauge was all messed up. It would start out and I can't remember the exact number but I think around 80 lbs. You run it  for about an hour and it would drop to about 15 lbs and when you stepped on the gas it would drop to about 2 pounds. Of course I wasn't happy so I took it back. He changed out the sending unit and it held at 30 lbs. I wasn't happy with the 30 lbs but since it stayed steady all the time I lived with it. That was about 75000 miles ago and if you start it up to day it goes to 30 and stays there. This might just be a case where a light is better than a gauge. If it not making any noise probably nothing is wrong and if you had a light it would be off and you wouldn't be worried. Just my thoughts.

This is not my engine its Jims. Mine are built by myself with Carlquist competition engines. I haven't had a low pressure or bearing failure in over 20 yrs.

 I do not know what your case is, but in my case the engine shop where I had it done the owner was probably the best engine builder in the country but he had some real POT Heads working for him and he was very busy and he did not check the clearance on the crank and the main bearings was wrong. He fixed it and was very upset because he did not check the potheads work.

I had a 250 6 Cyl. Chevrolet that done similar and a new set of main bearings fixed it right up. There was no funny engine noises in it either.

I want to get your input.  I have a 70 390 that was recently rebuilt.  About 80 miles on the engine.  I put in a mechanical oil pressure gauge with copper line.  At start up (1200 rpm/high choke) I have 40 lbs pressure.  When it kicks down to idle (700 rpm) and the oil starts heating up I lose pressure.  It goes down as the oil heats.  After about 7 minutes I rev it up to 2200 rpm (about cruising speed) and have 25 lbs. of pressure.  After about 12 minutes it is down to 10lbs...
Input from the AMC forum is that I need to check the pressure relief valve.  Could that be the problem.  If that was defective wouldn't the pressure remain a constant? 
Do you have any ideas?  Input? 
 
I don't hear any scary noises from the engine.
I pulled and cut the oil filter and found no metal shavings.
