Here's how it works. You sell your car to a
company that's located in a state that does not issue titles for older
vehicles. They register the vehicle in that state. They then sell
the vehicle back to you with the paperwork showing that it was registered in
that state. You then take that paperwork to the DMV and they will issue a
title for your vehicle in your state. The cost is usually several hundred
dollars. It sounds a little shady, but it's
not illegal. It's taking advantage of the fact that different states have
different laws.
