I have had both good and bad results w/Jet Hot. My comments are meant primarily for the Jet Hot location down near Allentown, Pa.
Headers for my Vette: Polished Stainless Steel from Lingenfelter. They still look decent although there is ONE small area that peeled. Noticed it last year and they were done 6 yrs ago. One caveat: EVERYTHING from the headers back, including the CAT (externally coated only) up to but NOT including the polished B&B Tri-Flow mufflers was Jet Hot coated, inside and out. The exhaust at the muffler tips used to be (relatively) cool by comparison to what they are today. In fact, the tips are at least an inch further from the plastic bumper than they originally were and they still SCORCHED the paint!!! So the stuff really does work and hold in the heat!
Edelbrock Performer & Performer RPM Air-Gap: Both have been coated
for appx 18 months. No probs there yet.
Accel/Lingenfelter SuperRam Base/Runners/Plenum: 12 months and still looks good.
Even w/all of the above, I have to say that since I am in the Scranton, Pa area, when I drove down to the Allentown facility, I was unimpressed with the people and the service. You could tell they were NOT car people. EVERYONE from the girl at the front desk to the guy who said he was the one who would be doing the coating, seemed to me like they would have been just as pleased to be working at WalMart. I never met the manager as he was out sick that day, but I understand he is a car guy and actually came to Jet Hot from another coating competitor's home office to work there.
So the bad result(s) I referred to above was just a small bit of peel on one of the long tubes on my Vette close to an exhaust port (the
flange area).

needed something to put on as didn't want regular ones, and figured $25 a set
good price, knowing it was probably Chinese crap. Not sure where it was from,
but fit and looked nice.
For about a YEAR, then went straight to hell, as the heat, humidity took
them out, never seen something rust so fast it was like a cat peed on
them.

What ever you do,,, dont get JET HOT to coat them. Their coating is junk
rust in less then a year. I have had my headers recoated 3 times under their 3
yr warenty by them! poor quality controll too. The dented
myheaders twice in the same spot and claimed I did it. sandblasted
a hole in the port where i welded and port matched them and the just coated em
and sent em to me with the hole in the port opening!
just my experience with them and their product. I bought them new
from Jet hot cause I wanted a superior product with a lifetime warenty against
corosion. turns out the warenty only covers rust thru ... after 3 years they
can be rusty and look like crap and they dont care.

I know first hand what you mean by cheap imported steel.
I my job working on industrial laser, I encounter this a lot.
I customer is having trouble cutting all of a sudden, thinking
something is wrong with the laser, they call me, most of the time it
they have switch suppliers and are now getting this imported
crap. I normally have them get a sheet of goos steel, and
evrything worgs fine again.

Hi Ed, for some reason I thouht those headers that sold on
ebay were chrome, I'll have to go back and look at link. I think
there are several things here also worth mentioning, years ago,
the paint and coatings everyone used is probably not as good as
the stuff being made to today as technology has come a long way
with heat coatings, ect.
On the other hand, there are a lot of metal products I would
rather have from the 1970s.....used, as opposed to the cheap sh*t
Vietnamese and Chinese metal that have flooded the market in
recent years. A example here would be cat converters. I had
several NOS ones and saved them, to use on my own cars that
required them. When taking them to the muffler shop to install,
each muffler shop told me 'man, they don't make them like that
anymore' just being good, solidly built American piece as compared
to the McChinese ones they sold and would have used on my car,
which would have been good for maybe 3-5 years max before failing.

I know that the spirit of the auction will also drive
up a price. I know that I have seen it many times
when I used to sell a lot on ebay. As for the silver
paint, I put a set of these headers on my 72 304 Gremlin
back in 1973, I beleive that I paid around $125.00 for
them, which back than I was only making around $3.00 an
hrs, preping new AMC. But the header started to rust
a few weeks after i installed them, so I removed them and
cleaned them with a wirewheel and painted them with Hi
Temp paint, using that they stayed nice for about year,
Aftyer that I said the hell with it, because it was a go
car, not a show car. The point is is that the paint
from that time was that great.

There are whole range of factors at work here. And
not confined to ebay only, hell, you can find them at
swap meets, craigslist, even live auctions
There are people out there who don't do research on
items. A good case would be that 69 BBG AMX that
appeared on my AMC Classifieds last year for $10K/obo in
Arlington, TX. Suddenly it was in Wylie, TX and on ebay
for $18K/obo. So dragging it across a few counties cost
$8K! It still didn't sell and last I saw it was in ebay
hell, that is, those cars that take up residency on ebay
week after week, price slowly dropping week after week,
everyone tired of seeing them while owner, or seller,
tries to make $$$.
Not against capitalism at all, but possibly the
buyer of the headers wanted that chrome paint, as
opposed to the black hi temp paint on the Jegs
site?
How about that used Nintendo NES that sold for
$13,105 on ebay? That one game there, there are only 10
copies in world known to exist.
